Movies Now Streaming on Netflix: Color Book by David Fortune

Written and Directed by David Fortune

As of June 2026, David Fortune's film Color Book is streaming on Netflix. It's a beautiful film about fatherhood, surviving grief, and love. If you enjoy beautiful films with an engaging story and heart, David Fortune's Color Book is worth watching. Let's discuss...

What I really like about Color Book is the story is a full journey, but it doesn't try to do too much. Lucky wants to take his son Mason to see a baseball game. Full stop. Simple, right? But, within the story there are many layers. Lucky's wife Tammy recently died in an automobile accident. Mason has Down Syndrome. The family's car was totaled in the accident, so Lucky buys a used car for $1,500 for transportation. Will Lucky and Mason make it to the baseball game? Watch and see.

I love this film! David Fortune, a Morehouse College graduate, wrote and directed Color Book to honor Black men and fatherhood, which are topics not often depicted in movies. However, the story is universal and can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys watching good films and stories. The writing and directing is smooth and elegant. Even though the subject matter is heavy, there are doses of humor throughout the film.

Color Book stars William Catlett as Lucky, who gives an impeccable performance. I hope to see him in more films. Jeremiah Daniels, who has Down Syndrome, gives an excellent performance as Mason. I would love to see a sequel to this film to check in with the characters to see how they are doing. Not many films leave me with curiosity.

Enjoy!
