Movies with a secret twist are always fun. With the Internet and social media, movie twists are usually spoiled. However, I was able to see The Drama, written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, and starring Zendaya and Robert Pattison, without knowing the twist because I avoided social media about the story until I saw it on Friday.  In order to respect the movie and the intrigue, this is a spoiler-free review.  In summary, I enjoyed The Drama very much. The movie is rich with complicated characters and had me thinking about the worst thing I have ever done in my life, which was good. Let's discuss...

After seeing The Drama, I read several commentaries about if the movie makes light of serious topics. It doesn't. But, the movie does show people making choices that overall would not earn them any awards for Most Congeniality. What I really enjoyed is the back and forth thinking about which mistakes are ok and which ones should doom people to a lifetime of judgement and suffering. Most people have done something that they regret. One of my regrets was forgiving a person who eventually did worst things in our relationship. That's life. And, because I could see myself in the story, I enjoyed The Drama very much.  Movies that start conversations about the universalities of human experiences are my favorite to support.

There are several laugh out loud moments and over-the top scenes. Overall, The Drama is beautiful to watch and will leave you thinking about life, which is a good thing.
