                                                     The Hammonds House Museum

Atlanta, Georgia has a robust entertainment community. There are numerous museums, theaters, gardens, concert venues, sport events, etc.  Join me as we visit these various sites. You may want to visit them yourself. Let's discuss....

The Hammonds House Museum is a 501 (c) (3) organization which opened in 1988. The location was the former home of Dr. Otis Thrash Hammonds, a prominent physician and patron of the arts. After his death, the Fulton County Board of Commission under the leadership of Michael Lomax purchased the home and the 250 artwork which Dr. Hammonds purchased over the years.

The mission of the Hammonds House Museum is
" to preserve, exhibit, interpret and increase public awareness about the contributions that visual artists of African descent have made to world culture."

Today, the museum has a permanent collection of over 450 works dating from the mid-19th century by artists from America, Africa and the Caribbean.

In addition to the collections, the Hammonds House Museum can also host your next event. See the website for more information.

The current exhibit is The Ties That Bind & Ex-Domestication by visual artist Precious Lovell, curated by Halima Taha, the new artistic chair.
